Heriot-Watt graduate designed tweed wraps for First Ladies at G20
Helen Finlayson, a recent graduate of Heriot-Watt University was commissioned to create the Harris Tweed wraps and scarves which will be given as official gifts to partners of the G20 World Leaders including US First Lady, Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, wife of France's President Sarkozy.
The Harris Tweed wraps and scarves were designed, hand-made and packaged by Helen in her workshop in Glasgow.
Helen Finlayson is originally from Fort William and graduated in June 2008 from the School of Textiles and Design. Since her graduation, she has been selling her designs through Glasgow design showroom, Che Camille.
Her work in tweed, velvet and vintage Japanese kimono fabrics have earned her much attention, and in March 2008 Finlayson was named as one of the shop's resident design team, called 'The Glasgow 10'. Finlayson says of this prestigious commission:
“I feel hugely privileged, and excited to be involved in such a prestigious project, especially having graduated so recently from the Heriot-Watt School of Textiles and Design. I was nervous initially of course, but was confident the broad skill set provided by the Fashion Technology course would stand me well.”
Harris Tweed will also be featuring in contemporary designs by another Heriot-Watt graduate, Judy R Clark, on the catwalk at Dressed for Kilt show in New York City next week.
