139.* * * Heriot-Watt University featured in two articles contained in a major supplement on Scotland which appeared in the Financial Times on 4 November 2009. The supplement is also being used in the European, Asian and North American editions of the influential newspaper.
The University's position as Scotland’s international university was recognised in a piece on higher education. In an article under a banner size picture of the Dubai Campus, the university was noted as being “world class in the field of petroleum engineering” having established its own campus in Dubai International Academic City in 2005.
A separate feature on carbon capture and storage looked at the important role being played by the University in the development of this vital new arm of science. It included comment from Eric Mackay of the Institute of Petroleum Engineering who told the Financial Times that there is now a belief that the ability to capture and store carbon is within reach. “All the parts of the technology we need to do this are there, they have been demonstrated and they work.” The Heriot-Watt team are key players in the recently established Scottish Centre for Carbon Storage which is an exciting partnership with the University of Edinburgh and the British Geological Survey.
